more vomit

it's amazing how vomiting up everything you've eaten in the last 24+ hours can make you feel so much better, to the point of being able to sleep soundly. that seems to be what happened to Ellie. we've had quite the week of trying to figure out what is ailing her. it's been obvious that it's something with her digestive tract. at first we thought she was just getting too much from those "non slow flow nipples," so we found better nipples. however her fussing and crying when eating continued so then we thought she was just constipated and switched formula brands at the suggestion of the NP at the peds office (this was the night that nate had to find a walmart open past midnight and we all finally got to bed at 3am). even after a couple soft bowel movements though, she still continued to cry. she would act very hungry, take the bottle for a few sips and then spit it out upset. she was burping fine and passing A LOT of smelly gas, but still seemed upset. then this morning she had another one of her vomitting episodes. this was just after we had prayed to know how to help her. so my first thought was maybe it's a milk issue and we just haven't found the right formula, maybe she has a milk sensitivity. so i got online this morning and while "they" say it's not common for infants to have a true lactose allergy i still think it might be her issue. so nate broke the sabbath day for us and bought yet another can of formula, this time a soy based one. she's had one bottle so far and is now sleeping well. i'm going to lay down on the couch now and try to get a nap too while dad is at church. i made nate sleep in the other room last night since he has to work tonight. he got about 10 hours of really good sleep...i'm just a little jealous. but, then i don't have to go to work tonight and get to hold our sweet baby. i'll take the less amount of sleep over work.
anyone have any suggestions? similar experiences with the formula stuff?

I was going to tell you to try soy formula...then I read you already did. My niece and nephew both had to be on soy formula. Hope it makes a difference.

i feel so bad i haven't even emailed or anything since you brought your beauty home. what a keeper she is. good job you two! as for the nursing and barfing....been there with each of my kids. i have had to supplement with each child and have been able to nurse shorter periods of time with each. and as for supplementing, we use the lactofree formulas. they seemed to sit best with each of the kids. with #1 we did it because she threw up so much and the dr. told us to try it. (take my advice, ask for samples of the formula you use every time she has an appointment. they have tons and it goes to waste when it expires) with #2 we tried regular formula thinking he was fine and she was just a fluke, and he threw up even worse than #1, so we went immediately to lactofree with him. then with #3 and #4 we didn't even try the regular formula. they have all been fine. the formulas are all safe regardless of what specialty type they are. regular formula is usually cheaper than specialty soy or lacto free but who cares what they are eating as long as they are happy and eating pooping and sleeping like they should. congrats again. wish we were closer so we could help out and give hugs! hang in there. time goes so fast when you look back on it even though the nights drag sometimes.

Sorry to hear Baby Ellie is having problems digesting formula. Like everyone has suggested, soy seems to be less upsetting. We didn't have to use soy, but know plenty of parents who do. As for brands, maybe it doesn't matter, but our preference was always Enfamil, for what it's worth, but they are probably all the same. Hope her tummy calms down soon so you can all get some much-needed rest. Hang in there. As soon as I'm well and not carrying germs, I'll call you to set up a time I can come see your sweetie! Can't wait!
